Read with Me – February 2023

I love, love! Falling in love, being in love, making love. Loving friends, family, partners. I love it all and if my reading suggestions are anything to go by, its as obvious as ever. Check out what I read during the month of love below.

The Curse of the Shadow God (The Wicked Kingdom, #.5)

Enemies to Lovers, Slow Burn, Cinnamon Roll MMC, Stabby FMC, Arranged Marriage, He Falls First

Stars: ★★★★★

Spice: 🌶🌶

“So be mean, Violet, and let’s settle the rest in the bedroom.”

The Curse of a Shadow God is the prequel novel to Abbey Fox’s The Wicked Kingdom Series, and provides even more insight into the Kingdom of Casztian’s unique magical hierarchy and corrupt political system. A steamy slow burn enemies-to-lovers fantasy romance with a stabby FMC and cinnamon roll MMC, Violet and Gavin do not disappoint!

The Wicked Kingdom Series as a whole is riveting and Abbey Fox does an incredible job developing her world and characters leaving the reading wanting more so when she announced a prequel with our favorite side characters, reading was a no brainer.
Violet and Gavin make their debut with their supporting role in The Cure of the Crow giving us a peek at their feisty relationship.

In the Curse of the Shadow God we get even more of Violet’s sharp tongue and Gavin’s soft heart. The moment I began reading I fell in love with these two all over again. Their dynamic and banter provide the perfect balance of angsty suspense and spicy romance. Typically, a cinnamon roll MMC isn’t for me, but despite Gavin’s soft exterior he has a hidden sexiness that gives him quite the edge and had me swooning. We also are given more information on the Society of Crows and the illusive Shadow God himself. This not only helped to piece together a few linger questions I had from the rest of this series but also has me longing for the third and final installment of The Wicked Kingdom series that will be released later this year!

Side note – can we talk about the cover art?! Abbey I’m in LOVE!

Violet and Gavin’s story released on March 17th! Make sure to grab a copy!

*Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Final Offer (Dreamland Billionaires, #3) by Lauren Asher

Enemies to Lovers, Forced Proximity

Stars: ★★★★★

Spice: 🌶🌶🌶

“You always deserved better than me.” I rip my arm free of his hold. “No. I deserved better from you.”

Addiction and substance abuse has to be one of the hardest topics to cover in fiction. How can you cover years of addition, pain and abuse in 300-500 pages? I’d say you cant, but Lauren Asher delivers. Cal and Lana’s story is nothing short of extraordinary.

Final Offer is the third and final stand alone installment of the Dreamland Billionaires series and is a tough, but beautiful read. Having been in Lana’s shoes it was nice to be able to relate to her feelings, however fictional they were. Lauren Asher does an incredible job navigating alcoholism and Cal’s journey to recovery. There is no doubt that change isn’t possible until the user loves themself enough to want to be sober. Cal and Lana’s love story will forever be a favorite.

The Six Night Truce (West Oaks Heroes #1) by Hannah Shield

Enemies to Lovers, Forced Proximity, Single Dad

Stars: ★★★

Spice: 🌶🌶

“If there are no formal charges? There can be no trial. No conviction. Now, here’s where it all goes wrong.”

Whenever I know I’ll have a book hanger, but want to keep reading, I’ll pick up an easy read just to reset. Consider it a palate cleanser. The Six Night Truce (West Oaks Heroes #1) is just that – a quick and easy read to help you get over your last heavy book. Defense lawyer Janie and detective Sean Holt couldnt be more opposed, but when a case they are both working takes a turn for the worse and the courtroom is in lock down they are forced to find a way to work together to clear their names. Action-packed from the first page with the perfect dose of romance!

A Throne of Ruin, A Kingdom of Ruin, A Queen of Ruin by K.F. Breene

Enemies to Lovers, Beauty and the Beast Retelling, Fated Mates, HEA

Stars: ★★★★★

Spice: 🌶🌶🌶🌶

“They’re males. They get confused which head is for thinking and do stupid shit. As females, we need to set them right.”

One word. Hadriel! Crude as ever, the remainder of the Ruin of Roses series is ah-fucking-mazing (emphasis on fucking)!

K.F. Breene mixes incredible world building and character development with piss your pants humor that left me in tears! While I don’t want to give away any spoilers the remainder of the series is full of action-packed suspense, heart breaking trials and no shortage of laugh out loud moments. Read it for Hadriel and Leala, because who doesn’t love some mediocre debauchery?!

Paths (The Killers, #2), Gifts (The Killers, #3), Veils (The Killers #4) by Brynne Asher

Military Romance, Second Chance Romance, Small Town Romance

Stars: ★★★★.5

Spice: 🌶🌶🌶

“You date someone to figure out what you want. I know what I want and I think you do, too. It’s the gift of life, Keelie. We just need to embrace it.”

The Killers Series includes standalone action-packed romances filled with suspense, spice and the cutest farm animals! At this point, I’m not sure if I’m reading for the cows (Harry! iykyk) or the swoon worthy steamy assassins. Oh! I cant forget Keelie’s goats! Each book highlights the story of another retired or active contract killer and strong FMCs that face trouble either in the US or overseas. Whenever I read interconnected standalone romance novels I walk away with a favorite couple, but Brynne Asher makes that difficult! Each couple finds a way into your heart making it impossible to choose just one.

Merged With Him (Merge, #1), Fused With Him (Merge, #2), Entwined With Him (Merge, #3) by Kylie Kent

Enemies to Lovers, Romantic Suspense, Billionaire Romance, Second Chance Love

Stars: ★★★

Spice: 🌶🌶🌶

“I will share anything with you; what I will not share, under any circumstance, is you.”

The Merge Series focuses around the nightclub Merge. Each book highlights a key player, the clubs owner, head of security or underground street fighter and their chance at love. Each book is filled with steamy suspense as our possessive MMC’s navigate stalking, kidnapping and shootouts all in the name of love.

The Witch Collector (Witch Walker, #1) by Charissa Weaks

Enemies to Lovers, Slow Burn Romance, Unique Magical System

Stars: ★★★★★

Spice: 🌶🌶

“Something must always be lost if you’re ever to gain. Don’t fear this. You will never move forward if you never leave things behind.”

Brilliant. Simply brilliant.

As a reader, I search out books that have similar themes in fantasy and romance. We all do. Everyone is looking for that next book to steal their soul and when we fall in love with a series its hard to not search for something similar. Charissa Weaks’, The Witch Collector, is that next series.

Raina and Alexi’s story is gripping and fast paced. Raina has one desire, kill the Frost King and the Witch Collector (Alexi) so that she can be reconnected with her sister, but on Collection Day instead of carrying out her plan Alexi comes looking for her. Suspenseful twists, meddling Gods and steamy spice Raina must decide if Alexi is the enemy or if there are other powers at play.

By a Thread by Lucy Score

Enemies to Lovers, Workplace Romance, Grumpy Boss

Stars: ★★★★

Spice: 🌶🌶🌶

“You know, you’d be a lot prettier if you smiled once in a while,” she mused., fluttering her eyelashes.

A feel good romance with the perfect HEA. As a huge Lucy Score fan and in anticipation for the release of the second book in the Knockemout Series I decided to to reread a favorite of hers! By a Thread is cute grump boss romance with hysterical banter and steamy spice. Perfect for readers who loved The Hating Game by Sally Thorne.

Frost (Frost and Nectar, #1), Ambrosia (Frost and Nectar, #2) by C.N. Crawford

Slow Burn, Enemies to Lovers, Touch Her and Die Vibes

Stars: ★★★★

Spice: 🌶

“Well, that’s good, darling, because as I said, I’m looking for someone I can’t love, and so far, you are the perfect match.”

Frost and Ambrosia were exciting and thrilling, but honestly not my favorite. Torin’s need to marry someone he wont fall in love with, was what ultimately drew me to the series. Although I felt that the world building could have been a little better, I did appreciate the romantic plot.

I think you'll also love reading...
