Read with Me – May 2023

Between the Lines by Brandy Pelletier

Single Dad, Age Gap, He Falls First, Small Town Romance

Stars: ★★★★★

Spice: 🌶🌶

“I’ve been ignoring a lot of things since Halloween. After our porch conversation, I told myself that I needed to stick to the parking lot promise I made months ago: Tessa is not meant for me. No matter how badly I want her. No matter how great she is with my kid. No matter how much being around her just feels right.

I want this girl so bad I ache for her.”

Read it. Buy it. Read it again!

Between the Lines is real, raw and vulnerable. A beautifully written romance that is founded on laying yourself bare, putting in the hard work and believing you are enough.

Luke Shipley, a hardworking single dad, has a secret he can no longer run from. Tessa Burton, librarian extraordinaire, might as well be her elite parents secret with how disappointed they are in her career and life choices. Luke, knows the only person who can help him with his secret is Tessa and he also knows that allowing himself to be vulnerable with her is going to change their dynamic. Tessa refuses to let Luke quit and in turn he pushes her to see her worth. The two unlikely pair grow as friends and their relationship takes another turn when they both can no longer deny their attraction.

Between the Lines will no doubt make you laugh, the witty banter had me in hysterics. Tessa Burton you will forever have my admiration for the dragon costume alone. It’s going to make you cry because the characters are so real and their feelings so raw. Luke, you got this! It’s going to break your heart and put it back together because their is absolutely nothing more beautiful than two people finding a home within each other and understanding their worth.

Brandy, Between the Lines is phenomenal and I cannot wait to see what else the little town of Bennett, Georgia has in store!

King of Pride by Ana Huang

Stars: ★★★★

Spice: 🌶🌶🌶

Billionaire Romance, Opposites Attract

“You have five minutes, sweetheart, or you’ll find out firsthand that I’m not always the gentleman you think I am.”

Eekkk! AMAZING!

If you’ve read The Twisted Series and The King of Wrath, Book #1 of the King of Sins series, you know that Ana is the queen at building deep meaningful relationships that go beyond the bedroom. Although, what happens between the sheets is equally well written. King of Pride is no exception and I cant wait for King of Greed!

Flawless (Chestnut Springs, #1), Heartless (Chestnut Springs, #2), Powerless (Chestnut Springs, #3) by Elsie Silver

Enemies to Lovers, Single Dad, Childhood Crush

“Save a horse, ride a cowboy.”

Stars: ★★★★★

Spice: 🌶🌶🌶

Save a horse, ride a cowboy! Ladies, these men are steamy and now I all I can think about are cowboys, bull riders, and cow penning. Not to mention, I’ve never been a hockey girl, but here I am googling hockey players. Elsie Silver, look at what you have started!

The Eaton men are on a level all their own. Each heartthrob is battling their own internal demons and their ladies are forces to be reckon with. Follow the Eaton brothers through their internal battles as they try to find their HEAs with the help of their devoted dad, Harvey.

The next book in the series, Reckless, will be released on June 9, 2023 and shed some light on Summer and Theo! Also, Bloom Books has acquired North American print rights to the Chestnut Springs series and the new Bloom Editions will include a brand new cover and exclusive, print-only bonus chapters from Harvery’s POV!!!! I cant wait to hear all of the inappropriate jokes that man has been storing up!

Runaway Love (Cherry Tree Harbor, #1) by Melanie Harlow

Runaway Bride, Single Dad, Small Town Romance

Stars: ★★★

Spice: 🌶🌶

“Make grumpy single dad’s brown eyes pop? Check, I thought with satisfaction. Put that on my chore chart, you big hot lug.”

Runaway Love is such a cute story, but it’s just that, cute.

Roni, runaway bride, leaves her controlling cheating fiance at the alter. Homeless and jobless she ends up interviewing for a nanny gig in her wedding dress only to be turned down. Austin is in desperate need of a nanny, but no so desperate that he’ll chance having the incredibly attractive previous NYC Radio City Rockette there to help. Too bad for him, Roni charms his siblings and father and before he knows it he has a new nanny for the summer.

The plot and characters had so much potential, but the story felt rushed and the characters felt as though they were still strangers despite the info dumps.

Luca (Project Arma, #1), Eden (Project Arma, #2), Asher (Project Arma #3), Mason (Project Arma, #4) by Nyssa Kathryn

Stars: ★★★.5

Spice: 🌶

“You have a right to feel damaged, Evie, but don’t confuse damage with destruction.”

Well, there aren’t farm animals and thats a real bummer, but it is action-packed and the suspense is on fire so….

After finishing The Killers series by Brynne Asher (review here, here and here) I was on the hunt for something to replace it and there is just no comparison. Brynne, those farm animals made the series! All that said, I did need something to get me out of my head when I finished an intense new fantasy and the Project Arma series is incredible. The perfect amount of romance, swoony men and action. I’ll keep you all posted as I make it through the series. Maybe there is still hope for some furry friends?!

*Update! Clearly I’m blowing threw these and love them!

Playing the Part by Macy T. Riosa

Stars: ★★★★

Spice: 🌶🌶🌶.5

“It’s nothing. He freaked out when I asked him to have kinky sex with me.”

Equal parts kinky and cute!

Playing the Part is a quick, kinky read. We all read those steamy scenes, but any guesses as to how to feel so realistic (or sometimes completely impossible), well someone needs to test them out. Daniella, online erotica blogger is a virgin and when her reader base starts to question the plausibility of her kinky scenes she asks hockey player, Levi to help her determine if they are actually realistic.

The characters are well developed and for a novella the story and plot don’t feel rushed. The witty banter between Daniella and Levi will have you in hysterics along with the fact that Daniella lacks any kind of filter. While the two seem like an unlikely couple, they make a great team. There was considerable thought to the plot and the effort to make it feel as though it could play out in real life. Excited to see what’s to come!

Spark of the Everflame by Penn Cole

Found Family, Not-So-Fated-Mates, I-Despise-You-to-Lovers

Stars: ★★★★★

Spice: 🌶.5

“Looking at him now was like staring in a mirror in the worst kind of way.

Inside, we rattled the bars keeping us trapped in lives we didn’t choose. Inside, we roared with an insatiable craving for more. Inside, we paced and we planned and we waited.

Inside, we burned.

O.M.G Wow!

Penn Cole, Diem’s fire is outmatched! Spark of the Everflame’s world of Descended demigods and mortal rebels is not only enthralling, but a refreshing take on Romantic Fantasy.

Spark of the Everflame follows the journey of Diem Bellator as she navigates a world she has been sheltered from her whole life. After a series of events leave her mother missing, Diem is forced to open her eyes to the injustices the mortals of her village have endured at the hands of the Descended. As Diem navigates the watchful eye of the mysterious Prince Luther, her love for Henri and the desire to find her mother and save her people, she must make hard choices. Hopefully, these decisions will be enough to destroy her enemy, before they destroy her.

Diem’s quick wit, lively banter, and snarky comments will have you on the edge of your seat. If you love slow burn (and I mean painfully slow, the angst!), found family, and I-despise-you-to-lovers Spark of the Everflame is your next read!

Penn Cole, me and cliffhangers have a love hate relationship and I’m pretty sure that I don’t just want Book 2, but NEED it!
